Looking for a GST bill template?

A Word or Excel GST bill template still leaves the hard part to you: working out CGST and SGST (or IGST), rounding, and writing the amount in words — and one wrong formula means a wrong bill. This generator is a GST bill template that fills itself in. Type your shop details once, add items with their HSN code and GST rate, and it calculates the tax split, the total and the amount in words, then gives you a clean A4 invoice to print or save as PDF.

What a GST invoice must include

A GST tax invoice needs these details. This generator adds all of them for you:

  1. Your business name, address and GSTIN
  2. A unique, consecutive invoice number (up to 16 characters) and the date
  3. The customer's name and address, and their GSTIN if they are registered
  4. Place of supply (the customer's state) — this decides CGST + SGST or IGST
  5. For each item: description, HSN/SAC code, quantity and unit, rate and taxable value
  6. The GST rate and amount — split into CGST and SGST for same-state sales, or IGST for other-state sales
  7. The total, whether tax is payable on reverse charge, and a signature

Tax invoice, bill of supply or plain bill?

  • Tax invoice — you are GST-registered and charge GST on the items.
  • Bill of supply — you are registered but the items are exempt (0%). A bill with both taxable and exempt items can be issued as an invoice-cum-bill of supply.
  • Plain bill — you are not registered, so you cannot charge GST. Leave the GSTIN empty and the generator makes a bill without tax.

The generator picks the right heading automatically.

How to save the invoice as a PDF

Click Create invoice, check the preview, then Print / Save as PDF. On a phone or computer choose "Save as PDF" as the printer. You can then send the PDF to your customer on WhatsApp or email.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free GST bill template I can use?

Yes — this page is one. Unlike a Word or Excel template, it calculates CGST/SGST or IGST, round-off and the amount in words for you, and saves the bill as a PDF.

Is an invoice made with this tool valid?

It includes all the fields a GST tax invoice needs. You are responsible for entering correct details — your GSTIN, HSN codes and the right GST rate for each item.

Do I need e-invoicing (IRN)?

Businesses above the e-invoicing turnover limit (currently ₹5 crore — check the GST portal) must generate B2B invoices on the e-invoice portal with an IRN. This free tool does not generate IRNs.

Can I make a bill without a GSTIN?

Yes. If you are not registered under GST, leave the GSTIN empty. You cannot charge GST, so the tool makes a plain bill without tax.

Is my data saved or uploaded?

No data is uploaded. The invoice is created in your browser. Your own business details are remembered on this device so you don't have to type them again.

How should I number my invoices?

Use a unique, consecutive number for each invoice in a financial year, up to 16 characters — for example INV-001, INV-002, or 2025-26/001.
